Press release below.

Western Washington University, University of Montana, and The Royal Room present Electroacoustic InterExchange on Saturday April 5 at 5PM.

For fifth time since 2008, electronic music students from WWU and UM will collaborate in a concert featuring interactive computers, video, and mobile devices.

Included in the show will be works by Jim Anderson, Jon Bash, William Richardson, Erin Schneider, Joshua Shade, Qi Shen, Austin Slominski, Silas Stewart, Jake Whitecar, and UM studio director Simon Hutchinson.

Aside from standard instruments and computers, some works will employ Kinect controllers, a Wiimote (inside a ball), iPads, iPods, iPhones, and Computer Vision.

A special feature of this off-campus InterExchange will be a collaborative improvisation involving young students of Seattle’s Wayne Horvitz alongside the university participants.

“This event is always entertaining and enlightening for the participants and audience alike,” said WWU electroacoustic music studio director Bruce Hamilton. “The creative music tech programs at both schools are open-ended and there’s a similar exploration of sound and hybrid genres at work, but it’s interesting to see and hear different approaches to harnessing the myriad possibilities in this expanding field.”
