Everybody on the One – CMU New Music Ensemble

I’m very late in posting this recording, but check out the Central Michigan University New Music Ensemble tearing it up on my Parliament-Funkadelic-inspired, aleatoric work, Everybody on the One.

Everybody on the One

Art by Christopher Hoover

From the program notes:

I’ve been interested in George Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic for many years, and recently, when watching a documentary about the group, I was deeply impressed by how hard the group worked to maintain a unified art concept with their music, live stage show, and album art. I was inspired to team up with my friend, visual artist / MD Christopher Hoover to create a tribute to the group that attempts to bring to bring the music and philosophy of P-Funk into the realm of aleatoric concert music.

My guiding idea, which I have been conscious of ever since I found myself a composer, is the idea of the brotherhood of nations, a brotherhood in spite of war and strife. This is the idea I am trying to serve, with the best of my ability, in my music.
