Listen

I create a variety of musical works, including concert works for traditional instruments, experimental electronic performances, immersive audio experiences, and digital interactive systems. While these pieces span different genres and media, they are connected through themes of technology, culture, play, and the imagination of alternative futures.

Synthesis & Performance

Benjolin Synthcore (2023)

Noise + hardcore improvisations performed on a Eurorack “Benjolin” and custom Pure Data software that plays hardcore drumbeats when the amplitude of the Benjolin drops below a certain threshold.

“Hum” (2025)

Live performance set “Hum”, blending digitally controlled analog synthesizers, surrealist acid house grooves, and feedback textures. Recorded in my home studio, this video revisits the set I played live at Synth-tember / Mini-Blorp at New Alliance Gallery in Somerville, MA. Featuring chaotic 303 basslines (from Herbs & Stones Liquid Foam), evolving feedback loops (from the Random*Source Serge Resonant EQ), and hybrid digital/analog sound design, this should satisfy fans of modular synth performance, experimental electronic music, and custom audio setups.

Signals and Pathways (2026)

Live performance at Bleep/Blorp 2026 (April 18, Stonehill College), exploring solarpunk and eco‑grime(?) aesthetics, blending digital processing and sampling with hands‑on modular patching to create distorted rhythms connected to the sound of the natural world. Using Kyma for real‑time digital processing and real-time control, alongside analog synthesis in Eurorack, this performance imagines hopeful futures, with ecological awareness and technological grit.

Games & Interactivity

Rhythmcremental (2018, with Paul Turowski)

Rhythmcremental is an incrementally evolving drum machine where players create their own beats in a “clicker” game. Click the “Click” box to gain points. Points are used to buy items which you drag from the left of the screen into the grid at the right. Items in the grid add points automatically.

Plurality Spring (2017, with Paul Turowski)

In Plurality Spring, players perform music to control robotic avatars exploring an unknown orb in deep space. Using the microphone to track pitches, the live acoustic player/performers control the movement of the robots as well as the emergent sonic environments. The piece is both a standalone game and a framework for musical improvisation. The live acoustic audio mixes with in-game sound, creating an emergent augmented reality musical performance. Randomized levels, real-time decisions, and reactive audio lead to distinct musical results with each playthrough.

Electroacoustic & Immersive Audio

Mental Upgrade (2024)

Inspired by Timothy Morton’s concept of the hyperobject, Mental Upgrade explores ecological awareness through immersive electronic sound and ideas drawn from Japanese kagura and Shinto. As Morton remarks: “… we need philosophy and art to help guide us, while the way we think about things gets upgraded.”

Perspectives of Place (2022)

This piece was originally commissioned for a 15-linear-channel outdoor installation. The 15 speakers were set 30 ft apart along a highway overpass in Austin Texas. The work combines synthesized sounds with field recordings from Northern Japan and New England, superimposing a number of different natural locations and the sounds of their fauna over the listener’s space. I hope this piece can be a celebration of travel and the perspectives that it can provide us, but simultaneously draw attention to how transportation by planes, cars, and other means impacts the sonic ecology of these spaces.

Found Sound Ouroburos (2025, with Will Klingenmeier)

Will Klingenmeier – Acoustic guitar and Kyma electronics
Simon Hutchinson – Analog synthesizer and Kyma electronics

Available in as a Dolby Atmos spatial audio mix on Apple Music.

Fixed Media 2009-2019

A collection of fixed media works composed between 2009 and 2019.

Imagining the Future

My recent “mainstream-adjacent” work explores the ways that music, sound, and synthesis can help us imagine futures that are hopeful, ecological, and technologically aware.

Possibilities & Oblivia (2025)

“Possibilities & Oblivia” is a short album of rhythmic, experimental synth music engaged with the present and the future. While much contemporary synth-driven music leans into retro nostalgia (for the 80s and 90s), this album tries to imagine positive futures, echoing the spirit of synthesis pioneers from the 20th Century who treated electronic music as a space for exploration and optimism.

Built from a hybrid palette of analog and digital tools—Eurorack modular systems, vocoders, electric and upright bass, and a range of digital and analog processing—these pieces invite the listener to imagine futures that are vibrant, positive, and full of potential.

Speculation and Imagination (2025)

Live analog synthesizer improvisation from a online session with painter Onozaki Takuya, combining gentle melodic sequences with harsh, noisy feedback.

Imagine the Future (2024)

Step into the future with this four-song EP that paints playfully positive visions of tomorrow, bringing together natural soundscapes and pulsating energetic beats. These tracks embrace the fusion of biological, analog, and digital synthesis, inspired by acid house, eco-grime, and ambient.
